Softball: Palatine drops 11-7 decision to Carmel

The Carmel and Palatine softball teams were able to take advantage of Friday's pleasant weather for a nonconference game on the Pirates' diamond.

The Corsairs nudged ahead 8-3 after 3½ innings and held on for an 11-7 triumph.

Sydney Schuda (2-0) earned the win over the Pirates' Rhiann Dick (0-1), who struck out four.

Top hitters for the Pirates (1-1) were sophomores Anna Selleck (2-for-4, double), Amanda Stanczuk (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Grace Huff (2-for-4, RBI).

Pirates junior pitcher Sarah Grossman (1-0) entered the game in the fifth inning and held Carmel (2-0) to 1 run the remained of the game while striking out two.

Evanston 7, Wheeling 2: Wildcats freshman pitcher Emmie LaCaeyse (3-for-3, double, RBI) and sophomore Becky McAtee (3-for-3, 2 doubles, RBI) led) visiting Wheeling (1-1) in the nonconference game.
