Coroner: Saline County prosecutor dies after fall at home

HARRISBURG, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois coroner says Saline County State's Attorney Mike Henshaw has died at age 72.

Saline County Coroner Jerry Watson says Henshaw died Wednesday evening at his home. The coroner says it appears Henshaw's death was an accident and that "it looks as though he fell down his steps at home." Watson says foul play isn't suspected. An autopsy is planned Friday.

Assistant State's Attorney Jason Olson says any cases that Henshaw was handling will be reassigned. Olson says the Saline County board will announce the vacancy and appoint someone within the Democratic Party. Henshaw was a Democrat.

Olson says the vacancy must be filled in 60 days. The appointee will serve until the 2018 general election. The winner of the election will serve until the end of Henshaw's term in 2020.
