Homeowners: Long Grove man threw brick through their window because they're Muslims

A 52-year-old Long Grove man accused of throwing a brick through a neighbor's window has been charged with criminal damage to property, officials said Wednesday.

But victims of the attack claim the incident started because they are Muslim, ABC 7 Chicago is reporting.

A family living on the 6000 block of September Boulevard called police to report glass shattering in their home just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies found Michael J. Lamendella, also of the 6000 block of September Boulevard, walking in the area, according to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office.

Lamendella is charged with one felony count of criminal damage to property in relation to the incident.

The homeowners told ABC 7 Chicago they were targeted in the crime because of their faith.

Zuhdi Abdallah said two front windows of the home were shattered by giant rocks, yard lanterns were yanked out of the ground and an outdoor vase was toppled over.

Abdallah said the vandal came to the door and began spewing threats at his wife, who was home alone at the time.

"I was very in shock ... It's just hate. It's just hate against our people," Abdallah told ABC 7 Chicago.

Authorities were unavailable to comment about the incident early Thursday morning.

Lamendella is being held in Lake County jail and is due in bond court Thursday morning.
