Baseball: Dundee-Crown, Larkin post wins
Ryan Denz drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday, scoring Brett Buske with the game-winning run as Dundee-Crown's baseball team defeated Conant 3-2 in the Chargers' season opener.
Connor Ryan had 2 hits for D-C, which got new head coach Matt Mueller his first win. Scott Wojcik and Greg Williams each drove in runs for the Chargers.
Ryan picked up the win on the mound in relief of Erik Hedmark.
Larkin 4, Addison Trail 2: Max Anderson had 3 hits and Aaron Lazovick (3B) drove in 2 runs to lead Larkin (1-0) to a nonconference win. Andy Bonnet and David Bello also had RBI for the Royals. Max Wiskirchen picked up the win on the mound.
Streamwood 3, Fenton 2: The Sabres (1-0) scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth inning of this nonconference game. Adam Sojda had 2 hits including a double for Streamwood while Jesse Rico added 2 hits, Ryan Fitzgerald and winning pitcher Michael Pawilkowski had RBI for the Sabres.
CL South 3, Palatine 2: Ryan Parquette's single in the bottom of the seventh drove home the game-winning run as the Gators (2-0) won this nonconference game. Parquette had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Mark Paul was the winning pitcher in relief.
West Chicago 11, St. Edward 10: Losing pitcher Nolan Theriault had 3 hits including a double for St. Edward (0-1) in this nonconference loss. Matthew Schimbke and Jack Olson (2B, 2 RBI) added 3 hits each for the Green Wave while Daniel Falco (2 RBI), Mike Lopez (RBI), Jake Frey (RBI) and Ethan Palomino (2 hits, 3 RBI) also contributed for St. Edward.
Elk Grove 4, Bartlett 0: Alex Rodriguez had 2 hits for Bartlett in this nonconference game. Brandon Kendall was the losing pitcher.
Schaumburg 4, Elgin 0: Kyle Coates and Tim Mitchell had the only hits for Elgin in its season-opening loss. Matt Turner was the losing pitcher.
