Softball: Huntley blanks Hononegah

Tiffany Giese threw a 3-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk as Huntley opened its softball season with a 12-0 win over Hononegah Monday.

Giese also had 2 hits with a double for the Red Raiders. Adding to the Huntley offense were Rylie Porretto (2 hits, 2 RBI), Sofia Tenuta (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Breanne Weiss (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Teagan O'Reilly (2 hits, 2 RBI).

CL South 4, Richmond 2: Winning pitcher Christina Toniolo had 2 hits as Crystal Lake South won its season opener in eight innings. Toniolo allowed 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks in 7 innings. Chloe Skorija picked up the save. Sam Schetti and Sam Burgard had RBI for the Gators.

Belvidere North 8, Larkin 1: Sophie Young had 2 hits and Haley Bohne a double for Larkin in its season opener. Losing pitcher Hannah Gross had an RBI for the Royals.

Carmel 14, Cary-Grove 9: Alina Krembuszewski, Katy Wierczorek and Jazz Flashing each had 2 hits and an RBI for Cary-Grove (0-2) in this nonconference loss. Also driving in runs for the Trojans were Kelly Johnson, Alea Charlier, Alyssa Gurgone, Jill Deering, Frankie Cruz and Taylor Langguth. Emma Hill was the losing pitcher.
