DePaul University to honor Lester Holt, Ben Welsh

CHICAGO (AP) - DePaul University will honor NBC anchor Lester Holt and Los Angeles Times journalist Ben Welsh for their commitment to journalistic principles like accuracy and fairness.

The university's Center for Journalism Integrity and Excellence announced the honorees on Monday. They will receive their awards this spring.

Holt anchors "NBC Nightly News" and "Dateline NBC." He spent 14 years with WBBM-TV in Chicago. Holt moderated the first presidential debate in 2016 and reported on terrorist attacks in Europe during 2015 and 2016.

Welsh leads a team of Los Angeles Times reporters and programmers analyzing large data sets. He earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from DePaul. Welsh also co-founded an open-source network called the California Civic Data Coalition.

The two will be honored at a private event in Chicago on April 20.
