Endorsements: Delgado, Nagel, Saake, Yackey for West Chicago District 94 school board

Five residents are seeking four seats on the West Chicago High School District 94 board. Incumbents Rich Nagel, Gary Saake and Renee Yackey are running for re-election along with challengers Rosalinda Delgado and Susan Gillespie.

District 94 voters also will be deciding on a $37.5 million referendum to renovate the district's 90-year-old main building.

Last fall, the district completed a $5 million renovation primarily to update the school's science and math rooms.

The district is heading in a positive direction and the current board deserves a great deal of credit for that. In that spirit, Nagel, Saake and Yackey all merit another term on the board, and they are endorsed.

As for the remaining candidates, both Gillespie, who served two terms on the Winfield School District 34 board, and Delgado, who graduated from District 94 in 2007 and has lived in West Chicago her whole life, want to see increased community involvement in the schools. Both share a passion for education and both would make excellent additions to the board. The residents of District 94 are lucky to have a tough decision in April. We lean toward Delgado for her specific long-term ties to District 94 and West Chicago. She is endorsed.
