Hockey rink plan progresses in Libertyville

Plans for a hockey rink in Libertyville are advancing with recent village board approval to solicit bids for construction.

After other locations were studied and rejected, property adjacent to the softball field at the Libertyville Sports Complex was determined as the best site for the facility. The all-season rink was decommissioned more than a year ago when the former Bolander Park site at 625 Winchester Road was sold.

Estimated cost is $370,521, and there is $450,000 in the proposed 2017-18 budget for the project.

Local hockey enthusiasts have offered to help with design review, future maintenance and potential fundraising and meetings with interested residents will continue.
