Fremd sends undefeated boys team to state basketball tournament

Students and staff at Fremd High School in Palatine gave their undefeated boys basketball team an energetic send-off to the state semifinals Wednesday afternoon.

The 31-0 Vikings secured their trip to the Class 4A state tournament with their 36-35 overtime defeat of Algonquin's Jacobs High School at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates on Tuesday.

This is only the second boys basketball team in the school's history to go to state, joining the 1993 squad.

“With the success of the girls program, our boys are following suit,” Athletic Director David Dick said. “This team is unbelievable. You can see that in the games they've played in. This school and the community are very proud of these boys and we wish them nothing but the best of luck. Obviously our goal is to go down there and win it, and that's what we'll try to do.”

Fremd will play Whitney Young in the state semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Peoria.

“Respect all, fear none,” Fremd team guard Luke Seidel declared at Wednesday's send-off.
