Maine South principal promoted to assistant superintendent

Maine Township District 207 has promoted the principal at Maine South High School to an assistant superintendent position.

The school board approved hiring Shawn Messmer as assistant superintendent for curriculum and innovation effective July 1. Messmer has been the principal at Maine South since 2010.

"Shawn has been a valued team member in helping us achieve improvements that we've made and are on schedule to continue," Superintendent Ken Wallace said in a statement.

Messmer's new salary will be $170,000, a $17,000 raise from his current pay, school spokesman David Beery said.
