Endorsements: Boyd, Bruno, Currie, Loebach for Glen Ellyn School District 41 board

Voters in Glen Ellyn District 41 have a serious task this election. In addition to voting on a referendum, which is asking to borrow $24.2 million to build an addition at Hadley Junior High and complete infrastructure projects at four elementary schools, voters will be electing four newcomers to the seven-seat school board.

Five candidates are running for four 4-year terms - Robert Bruno and a slate of four: Martha Glover Boyd, Linda D'Ambrosio, Jason Loebach and Bruce Currie.

All five candidates support the funding request. However, they differ in their backgrounds and in their vision for the district.

Boyd, Loebach and Currie have a clear idea of where they want the district to go. Loebach, who is an attorney, wants the district to do more for special needs students - both with its physical accommodations and its programs. Boyd, who has a commercial real estate background, looks for the district to go back to fundamentals. Currie, a teacher who has an MBA, also wants stability. All three are strong candidates having expressed exactly what they will bring to the board. Bruno is a University of Illinois labor relations professor. He is supportive of the teachers and administration expertise in knowing what curriculum is best for students.

D'Ambrosio, who has a background in finance compliance, echoes what Boyd, Loebach and Currie believe, but as a board member, she would need to develop a deeper knowledge of issues.

All five candidates are focused on the interests of the children and the community of Glen Ellyn School District 41. However, it is Boyd, Bruno, Currie and Loebach who display the most solid knowledge of issues facing the schools, They get our endorsement.
