Lake County recorder warns of potential scam
Lake County residents are being alerted to what's being called a scam involving solicitation letters received in the mail from Illinois Deed Providers or Deed Retrieval Services.
According to the Lake County Recorder of Deeds office, the two companies are contacting homeowners offering to provide a certified copy of their deeds for $99, plus $4.50 for postage and handling.
The average deed is four pages or less, with a copy fee of $1 per page, according to the recorder's office. For safety, all requests for copies of deeds should be handled directly through the recorder's office. Call (847) 377-2575 with questions or concerns.
