Who's running for Geneva or himself?

When I meet people and they ask me where I live, I answer Geneva, rarely thinking too much of it. Their response brings me back to reality every time. "Geneva, I love Geneva. All those shops, the beautiful homes, Swedish Days, the Fox River" and on and on.

Geneva really is one of those special places to live, work, and to raise a family and Mayor Kevin Burns has been an important part of it.

Since moving to Geneva in 2003, I have yet to experience anything negative with our city's services and employees. They have been helpful with my home remodeling projects, always providing me with important and useful information. Without a strong mayor and his administration supporting our city staff, I feel that many of my past experiences would have not been as positive.

I understand that the grass is always greener on the other side and that there is always room for discussion and debate when it comes to city government. However, what Tom Simonian wants for our city does not seem to me to have my or my neighbors' best intentions at heart.

Tom Simonian provides great talking points that seek to grab your attention. "Bringing fairness" to government sounds great, but is it fair to cut our current city services and slash employee benefits just to save a buck? "Common sense" in government is great, but is it really common sense to single out Delnor Hospital, our local access to healthcare, implying they don't pay their fair share when they do so much for our community including sponsoring Swedish Days?

Voting for Tom Simonian is a choice between being pennywise and pound foolish and I have a distinct feeling from his campaign rhetoric that Mr. Simonian is running for himself rather than for our community.
