Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?{I want to continue the progress this library has made in being civic minded and responsive to all of the citizens of Addison. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.I have been a contributing member during the planning and construction of the new buildingand the recent upgrade0. Under current leadership the library has expanded its services to include access to our congressional rep, assistance to our patrons needing help accessing the affordable health care sites. As well as now offering certified high school diploma programs and scholarships for qualifying candidates. We built a teen area. AKA the" Hive" where teens have a place to gather, do homework and school projects. We expanded the STEM learning from not only the schools but in our after school programs.l This year 271 students have participated in 479 project. The library is also in the process of being accredited in the Board of Immigration Appeals. Two librarians have participated in the accreditation process for non legal assistance.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?Yes I have had a library card for several years. I use occasionally.Space is an issue at many libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain. We have plans for both. We did away with the rarely used reference section in order to maximize space and add a well used teen section. We moved the reference and IT desks for easier access for patron. We expanded o ur creative studio in the recently completed renovation. When we designed the current building I had the architect draw plans for phase two, which will be a 20,000 square foot addition. If we are able to do this, the drawings are already in place and the addition will simply be an extension of the current building. We knew back in 2006 that we would eventually need to expand to full capacity. What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change? We had to tighten our belts starting in 2008 when the housing crisis erupted. But through strong fiscal management we managed to keep adding programs and content for our patrons benefit. We added family yoga and Zumba programs for our patrons. We also have a creative design studio which people of all ages utilize. We offer many more services to our patrons, other than just books and magazines. Patrons can borrow lap tops while they are in the library. Working ion concert with both Distract 4 and District 88 schools to help students with after school projects. As well as having teens volunteer to help our grade school students with work after school. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I think of our library as a very active community center, offering both social and educational assistance for those in need, while still providing the best possible collections for all our patrons. Collections include not just books and magazines, but also Movies. music, and family programs. And we do this while staying within our fiscal budget and keeping taxes down for all. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Richard VeenstraWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Always do the right thing. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?At this point in my life, I can honestly say I would not need a do-over.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Business Communication.
