Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I enjoy public service. I also enjoy being on the library board. The library has a great reputation for customer service.If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.I continue to push the board to reconfigure the building lay out and to expand the building. The entrance is from the side of the building going through meeting rooms and restrooms then descending down a few steps before entering the front counter and the collection. The library District is land rich. The board in my opinion is slow to work on these issues. I have been outspoken that these problems need to be resolved.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?Yes, since 2007 when I moved to Lisle Library District. I use the library materials 3 to 4 times a month.Space is an issue at many libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain.The Library District has land available to the east and south of the building. A survey of the district's residents is to be completed later this year. Depending on the survey's results the board needs to act.The library staff has been excellent in clearing material that is no longer usedWhat impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change?Libraries today are not just a collection of books. The internet has brought more users to the library than ever before. Audio books and eBooks' are becoming more popular every year. CDs and videos have been popular since the library began its collection a number of years ago. Libraries are a reflection of community pride and its culture. A quality library is one of a number of reasons why people will select to move to that community.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?The library board is to conduct a survey of the community as to what its believe the library is and should be. It will also survey non users as to why they do not avail themselves to what the library has to offer. This will help the board to determine what direction the district will use to begin improvements. However, past experience has shown little action has been completed by the board in the current building and parking problems.
