Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I am passionate about my Library! The Gail Borden Library is particularly special to me because it provided the resources I needed to become a library. When I decided to go to law school I could not afford an LSAT prep course so I went to the library and checked out all of the LSAT Prep Books available! Not only did I get into law school, I was able to study there during law school and for the bar. I passed the bar first time!! I am a lawyer today because of this library and I want to give back as much or more than the library has given to me.If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.As a Trustee, I want to utilize my legal skills to ensure the library stays compliant with state and federal laws while maximizing its potential for growth and future sustainability.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?YESSSS!!!! I have been a card holding library patron since moving to South Elgin in 2002. Every member of my family has a library card and we use our cards all the time!!Space is an issue at many libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain. We actually have an abundance of space at our library so there is no need to expand our physical plant or remove any of the collection. However, if we did have that issue I would look into expanding the space or utilizing non book related spaces before doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical. All books are useful for appreciation of its contents, analyzing time periods and marking our progress regardless of technological advancements. What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change? In order to remain relevant, libraries have to stay on top of the latest technological changes and advances in our world. Having new computers with the latest apps, video software and high speed internet access for our patrons will keep them coming and engaged. Unfortunately, having a sluggish economy over the years has had a direct impact on library finances. The library should be the foremost place for community education and access to resources for learning new skills, hobbies, and broadening your world view. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? One main issue important to me is getting the ENTIRE community actively involved in their local library. Most people do not know of the many programs, exhibits and treasures that are available to them at their library. I want to spend a significant amount of time going to under privileged, over looked groups of people to herald the bounty of the library that is available to them. Just as I used the resources of the library to become a lawyer, they can use the resources of the library to fulfill their dreams. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Michelle ObamaWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Seek after and appreciate the wisdom of those that have gone before you so that you have a greater chance to go further. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?My college years!! I would love the opportunity to learn more and create something of importance in my youth. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?My favorite subject was history. I now have a great grasp on what's going on in the world and how we got to this point. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Maximize your potential while trusting in the Lord
