Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I filled in this position for the last 3 months. I always been involved in my kids education. While attending several meetings I notice there is a need of a Latino voice to bring any concern to the school board committee. Introduce the Spanish people to become more active in our kids education by participating in different events the school offers to help the students suceed. What do you think about the process for measuring student success in your district? Is it adequate? What changes, if any, do you propose?Through our monthly meetings. The principal provides students academic update. However, different chair member shows graphs and walks us through the process of how students are achieving their goals. The measurement is adequate because the children are given all the tools they need to succeed academically. This can be seen through the teachers providing any academic support the students may needs. How big a role do you think the board of education should play in setting the curriculum for students and what ideas do you have for changes to the current curriculum? The board members plays a very important role when making decision, it is good to have input from a different perspective. When an area of concern is brought up by the superintended, principle or staff chair members they also diligent research prior to presenting their proposal. At the moment I don't have any ideas for the current curriculum, but we drive ownership to the teachers who interact more with the students. What budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases? In my short time as a board member, all I can say is that Mundelein High School has a great financial person who is always looking after the district budget. He is very proactive, always finding ways to save and keeping the budget in positive numbers. What role can and should school choice play in your district? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system or other means giving students broader choices among public and private schools, how will that affect your district? What is the appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system?I had the opportunity to have my daughter in a private school for a few years. I like the moral principles and family oriented curriculum. As a parent I had to do a lot of volunteer hours to keep the cost down. the class size were small, this allowed more attention per student. Unfortunately, while my daughter was enrolled, private school did not get enough financial support from the state. The school budget is base on tuition from students enrollment and fundraiser. With that said, it limits the child's academically since private school may not get enough funding to get the students tools they need to succeed. Public school budget is base on Village population, business and property taxes, which give better vision on planning and opportunities to implement latest technology or resources to help children succeed. In the end, both private ant public focus to provide the best education for the student. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? As a candidate, all issues are important.
