Arlington Heights officials rescue duck from kite string, high winds

A full recovery is expected for a mallard duck whose feathers were ruffled Wednesday when she became tangled in a kite string and stranded in a tree in Arlington Heights, authorities say.

Police found the female duck hanging by its wing in Sunset Meadows, Arlington Heights police Sgt. Tom Henderson said.

"The high winds were blowing it around like a rag doll," he said.

Arlington Heights Forestry and Animal Control freed the duck within 30 minutes, using an aerial truck and a bucket, according to police.

The duck has been safely moved to a rehab center in Barrington until its fracture is repaired.
