Aurora police: Pedestrian hit by truck fell onto the road
The 36-year-old Aurora man who was struck and killed by a semitrailer truck Monday night apparently fell on the road moments before the crash, authorities said Tuesday.
Aurora police said Ralph E. Clark died about 7:40 p.m. when he stumbled onto the roadway on the 800 block of North Lake Street. Clark was hit by a northbound truck driven by a 64-year-old Joliet man.
The truck driver told police he saw Clark moments before the crash walking bent over and stumbling on the sidewalk. As the truck was passing, the driver saw Clark in his passenger's-side mirror.
He said he saw Clark stumble into the road and apparently into the passenger's side of the truck's flatbed trailer.
No citations have been issued.
The Kane County coroner's office won't perform a full autopsy but will conduct toxicology and other tests, officials said.
