Hersey opens season with first games at Prospect
The first high school water polo games to be played at Prospect are in the books.
Hersey's boys and girls teams will join Prospect in calling the new pool at Prospect their home waters this season.
And both the Hersey girls and boys teams hosted St. Viator in nonconference season openers Monday.
It was all Hersey in the girls game, with the Huskies winning 16-1 as junior driver Katie Lindgren led the way with 5 goals.
In the boys matchup, St. Viator came away with a 7-5 victory after outscoring the Huskies 3-1 in the fourth quarter.
Senior Stephen Battin led the Lions with 3 goals, and senior Matt Stack, juniors Jack Curran and Michael Wendling and sophomore Michael Ruben had 1 each. Senior goalie Tim Bansfield stopped 9 shots for St. Viator.
Hersey's top scorer was junior R.J. Quinn, with 3 goals.
Girls
Conant 15, Maine East 2: Senior Paulina Chowaniec led the way with 8 goals and sophomore Olivia Olszewski had 3 as the Cougars won their season opener in a nonconference game on the road.
Sarah Erne, Christina Chase, Olivia Konieczny and Aly Wooley also had goals for Conant, while goalie Cam Rosas stopped 10 shots and had 3 steals.
St. Charles North 7, Schaumburg 3: The visiting Saxons dropped their season opener in a nonconference matchup.
