Aurora man accused of causing 3 DUI crashes Sunday evening

An Aurora man who police say caused three separate crashes within a mile of each other in North Aurora has been charged with multiple DUI-related felonies.

Just before 10 p.m. Sunday, police say Domingo Perfecto, 41, was driving a dark green Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southbound on Route 31 at Oak Street when he struck a white GMC Savannah van and left the scene, North Aurora police said in a statement. The GMC was driven by a 65-year-old Batavia man, who was not injured.

Shortly after, Perfecto's truck struck a red Ford Fusion driven by a 26-year-old Aurora man on Route 31 near Airport Road, police said. That driver was not injured either.

About a mile from the first crash, Perfecto then struck a maroon Mitsubishi Eclipse at Route 31 and Lovedale Lane, police said. The Mitsubishi was driven by a 45-year-old Elgin man, who was not injured. His passenger, a 32-year-old Elgin woman, was taken to Presence Medical Center in Aurora with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Perfecto attempted to flee on foot, but a passer-by chased him and convinced him to return to the scene, police said. He was taken to Presence Medical Center in Aurora, where he was treated and later released.

Perfecto was charged with aggravated DUI, no driver's license; aggravated DUI, no driver's license and BAC over .08; aggravated DUI and accident involving great bodily harm; and aggravated DUI for an accident involving great bodily harm and BAC over .08.

He appeared in bond court Monday morning, when his bond was set at $25,000. He remains in custody at the Kane County jail.
