An Addison woman was killed after another driver blew a red light early Wednesday morning in Melrose Park, causing a three-car crash, police said. The crash happened at about 3:56 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Mannheim Road and Lake Street, Melrose Park police said in a news release. Full story.

Geneva man pleads guilty to 2 burglaries, gets 10 years

A Geneva man plead guilty to two burglaries, including one that involved a stabbing, in exchange for a 10-year prison sentence this week. Ronald D. Anderson, 44, of the 300 block of Brittany Court, pleaded guilty Wednesday, the Kane County state's attorney's office said yesterday. Full story.

Fire starts in Lake Forest basement

Two elderly people were helped away from their Lake Forest home by emergency responders after a fire started in the basement yesterday morning, fire officials said. Lake Forest firefighters were called at 9:39 a.m. to the two-story home on the 0-100 block of West North Avenue and arrived to find smoke coming from both floors of the home, Lt. Stephen Grost said. Carpentersville man found guilty after threatening woman with gun

A Carpentersville man accused of holding a gun to a woman's head in front of her children while asking them to "come watch your mother die" was convicted by a Kane County jury. Full story.

Old tollway coin buckets on their way out

The Illinois tollway is introducing an innovation 1990s drivers digging frantically for change would have cheered. Agency leaders approved a contract yesterday to replace the iconic buckets at toll booths with updated machines featuring touch screens that can accept credit cards or bills as well as coins. Sox to retire Buehrle's No. 56
