Arlington Heights man pleads guilty to slapping boy

An Arlington Heights motorist who prosecutors say chased and slapped a boy after a ball the boy was playing with struck the man's car pleaded guilty Friday to misdemeanor battery.

Richard Tannous, 29, was sentenced to 24 months' conditional discharge in exchange for his guilty plea. He was also ordered to perform community service, according to court records.

Tannous was driving near Lyndon Avenue and Carol Court in Rosemont about 6 p.m. Oct. 20, prosecutors said during Tannous' bail hearing last year. The 11-year-old boy was playing with another child when his ball struck the car.

Tannous chased the boy into an alley and struck his face, prosecutors said.

Several weeks later, the boy noticed Tannous in the area and alerted police.
