Several ill after chemical leak at Indianapolis-area YMCA

FISHERS, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say several people fell ill after a chemical leak in the pool area of a suburban Indianapolis YMCA.

The Fishers Fire Department says six adults and a child were taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries after the leak possibly involving chlorine happened Tuesday morning. Eleven other people were checked out as officials evacuated the YMCA facility in Fishers, just north of Indianapolis. Officials said there was not any danger for surrounding areas.

Brian Koning tells WTHR-TV that his 21-year-old daughter was working as a pool lifeguard when the leak happened. Koning says he spoke with his daughter as she was being taken to a hospital with breathing troubles and nausea.

Fishers fire Capt. John Mehling says the cause of the leak and the exact chemical wasn't immediately known.
