Fremd bands perform at Illinois Music Education Conference

Students in Fremd High School's band program were selected to perform at the Illinois Music Educators Association's Illinois Music Education Conference and recently achieved success at the Northshore Jazz Festival.

The Jazz Ensemble and Symphony Strings Orchestra performed at a conference in Peoria. There are four different performance categories, including band, orchestra, jazz and choir. Groups submit a blind audition, which means there is no identifying information about the group and IMEA selects performers. Out of all the schools to audition, between four and six groups perform.

"Our performance at IMEC was definitely a watershed in our journey, but by no means marked the end of it," said Fremd High School sophomore and saxophonist Kevin Li.

"The privilege to perform and listen to others at such an amazing convention, in which thousands of passionate musicians across the state come together to share their love for the art, served as an opportunity for us to grow as individuals and as an ensemble, and I felt that we have done so."

Individual students across the district were selected as All-State musicians. Fremd had three students that were selected to perform as All-State musicians, as well as one student selected for the "Future Music Educators Seminar."

At the Northshore Jazz Festival, the Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab Band, and Jazz Combo bands all performed and earned Division 1 Superior ratings. Each band performed in a different division.
