Temperatures could hit record high again this weekend

Temperatures climbed to record-breaking numbers on Friday across Chicago and the suburbs.

At O'Hare, temperatures reached 66 degrees in the afternoon, breaking the record for Feb. 17, which was 60 degrees in 1880, ABC 7 Chicago reported.

Golf courses opened in Naperville for the warmer-than-usual long weekend. Springbrook and Naperbrook opened Friday and for the foreseeable future.

“It all depends on mother nature,” Kevin Carlson told ABC 7. “If this weather holds we will stay open. If we get back to more seasonable weather, it snows or gets cold, we'll shut down for a little bit.”

It was a half-day for Naperville schools, so parents and their children were out soaking up the sun early in the afternoon, ABC 7 reported. A popular spot was Naperville Nuts and Sweets, a candy shop.

“I'm selling out of slushees today,” Mary Anne Frantik said.

More beautiful and possibly record-breaking weather is expected for the whole weekend. A high of 62 is expected Saturday and 61 Sunday. Monday's high is expected to be 64, though it'll be cloudy. That continues Tuesday, with rain later in the day or at night. Wednesday's high is expected to be 63 with sun. then it starts leveling off Thursday, with a high in the low 50s.

The record high temperature for a Feb. 18 at O'Hare is 62, in 1981. The record for a Feb. 19 is 65.
