Girls gymnastics: Geneva hoping for strong performance at state

Five seniors and four juniors from the Fox Valley area, as well as defending team state champion Prairie Ridge co-op, will compete in the state girls gymnastics finals this weekend at Palatine High School.

Included in that list of individual competitors is Geneva senior Claire Ginsberg, the 2014 all-around champion who is now in her senior year.

Ginsberg will compete in all four events, as will her classmate Michaela Allen, a first-time all-around qualifier.

Junior Kelly Frank will also compete on the bars for the Vikings.

"As we head to state, I am looking for the girls to come out strong at prelims and all-around Friday and move through to finals on Saturday," said Geneva coach Kim Hostman.

Other Fox Valley area qualifiers include Bartlett senior Ashley McKee (all-around), Jacobs junior Molly Meehan (vault), St. Charles North junior Emma Grace Redmond Mattucci (all-around), Batavia senior Cameron Hindel (vault) and St. Charles North junior Grace Levita (floor).

The Prairie Ridge co-op team, led by Cary-Grove senior Nikki Baars, is seeking its third straight state title.

Competition begins at 2 p.m. Friday with the all-around final, individual event preliminaries and team competition. Session II is at 2 p.m. Saturday and includes the championship finals in individual events as well as the team trophy presentation.
