Ryerson Woods hosting maple syrup hikes

Registration is open for maple syrup hikes Saturdays and Sundays, March 11-26, at Ryerson Woods in Riverwoods.

Led by Lake County Forest Preserve nature educators, the one-hour hikes run every half-hour from noon to 2 p.m. and are open to all ages as well as school or scout field trips. Participants hike into the woods to view the sap collection in progress and then head to the evaporator to learn how the sap becomes syrup and get a taste of the final product.

Cost is $6 per person. Children under age 3 are free. Register at www.lcfpd.or or call (847) 968-3321. Ryerson Woods is on Riverwoods Road between Half Day Road (Route 22) and Deerfield Road, just west of I-94.
