Shooter awaiting charges in Highland Park

Highland Park police said a man in his car was shot at Friday afternoon and a suspect has been arrested.

Shortly after 4 p.m., the victim drove himself to the Highland Park police station. The car was damaged by gunfire, but the driver was not injured.

Witnesses on the 1800 block of Deerfield Road gave officers with a description of the shooter and the shooter's vehicle, which later was stopped by Deerfield police.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and two firearms were recovered, police said.

Investigators said the suspect also displayed the gun at the driver of a delivery truck and ordered him to drive away.

Police said the shooter knew the victim and the crime was not a random act.

The identity of the suspect is being withheld until charges have been authorized by the Lake County state's attorney's office.
