Music notes: Micky Dolenz takes the spotlight at Arcada

Still a believer

The Monkees, the TV-created rock sensation from the '60s, isn't around anymore. But Micky Dolenz, viewed by many as the distinctive voice behind the Monkees' fun and catchy sound, is still touring, pleasing longtime fans with the band's greatest hits, including “Last Train to Clarksville” and “I'm a Believer.” See him when he plays St. Charles' Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. $39. (630) 962-7000 or arcadalive.com. 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11

New Colony Six at Nellie's

Ever since a reunion tour in 1988, New Colony Six, one of Chicago's original garage bands, has made regular stops in the suburbs to play their late '60s and early '70s hits. Catch the current lineup this weekend when they take the stage at Durty Nellie's. 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. $20; $100 for four VIP mezzanine seats. Dunn Dunn Fest kicks off

The average person on the street might not know who Donnie Biggins is. But if you're trying to break into Chicago's music scene, he's a good man to get to know. Before recently taking on ownership of Chicago's Tonic Room, Biggins booked shows there, working tirelessly to make the venue a force on the Chicago music scene and an artist-friendly haven for local acts. His labor of love, the annual Dunn Dunn Fest, brings together some of the best and brightest musical talent — a solid mix of touring and local acts — to six venues in Chicago this year: Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave.; Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave.; Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave.; Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia; Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont Ave.; Tonic Room, 2447 N. Halsted St. The fest, which kicks off its fifth year Thursday, Feb. 16, and runs through Saturday, Feb. 18, features nearly 50 acts, with roughly half from Chicago and the suburbs.
