Take a position, Congressman Roskam

I called Congressman Peter Roskam's office Jan. 31 to ask where he stood on President Trump's executive order barring refugees and immigration from seven countries. I was directed by his district office to call the Washington office and after jumping through this additional hoop was told that Congressman Roskam was still considering his position, but that he saw it as a positive first step in stemming the tide of terrorism.

What a typically Roskam statement. This from the man who shifted his position on Trump the candidate several times during the course of one day, depending on who was asking the question.

In a democracy, we voters don't always get a congressperson who agrees with our opinions but we should demand to have a congressperson who has the spine and strength of character to take a position and publicly state it.

In Peter Roskam we have a man who is always hiding, looking for the politically safe position from which to burrow deeper into his Washington D.C. bunker.

We deserve better.
