App reviews: Rolling Sky, Firefox Focus

Rolling Sky

Can you keep the ball rolling? That's the main challenge of Rolling Sky, which puts you in charge of steering a ball through a winding path without once hitting or grazing the obstacles in your way.

Players control the ball by sliding a finger underneath it to guide it in the right direction. But your reflexes have to be fast to keep up as the path unfolds before you.

This game is ad-supported. It also gives you a limited number of balls with which to roll down the track. You can get more balls - the supply will recharge over time. You can watch ads to pick up some game supplies as well. Paying $2 will get rid of the ads and make sure your supplies never run out.

The Android version of the app also asks for access to your phone's photos, media and files - denying this doesn't affect your ability to play the basic game.

Free, for iOS and Android devices.

Firefox Focus

Mozilla's Firefox has released a mobile browser with a laser-focus on privacy. Firefox Focus is a bare-bones mobile browser that doesn't track your habits and will even block ads for you - something that can be useful for mobile users who aren't on good internet connections. It automatically clears your browsing history as well, so you start with a clean slate whenever you want. While it works well, it could use a few more features - the ability to add bookmarks, perhaps, since you don't need to keep surfing habits private from yourself.

You can, at any time, open a Firefox Focus page in Apple's default Safari browser. Firefox Focus can also act as an ad-blocker for Safari. If users go into Safari settings, they can choose it as an option for a content blocker - useful if you want some of the privacy tools, but still want to use the browser that automatically opens on your device.

Free, for iOS devices.
