Harper teams with business to offer drone pilot courses

In response to overwhelming growth in the Commercial Unmanned Aircraft Systems industry, Vortex UAS has partnered with Harper College, Palatine, to train the next generation of career-oriented drone enthusiasts to enter that commercial services market.

Norma Nerstrom, manager Career Training and Workforce Board Support for Harper College's Continuing Education Program, said, "Harper College is often the first community college in Illinois to offer new and innovative career training, including our most recent endeavor in Unmanned Aircraft Systems, more commonly referred to as drones.

"CE has partnered with Captain Vince Donohue, president of Vortex UAS, to provide high quality training on the Harper campus beginning this spring. Harper CE, in collaboration with Vortex UAS, is pleased to be on the leading edge of this technological revolution.

"Captain Donohue is actively working with the FAA to assist in setting the standards needed to propel this exciting industry, and Harper CE is genuinely pleased to provide relevant career training for the up-and-coming drone enthusiasts."

Course options include:

• Make Money Flying a Drone - Introduction to the professional remote pilot industry

• Part 107 Knowledge Test Prep - FAA certification for safe and legal operations

• Piloting a Drone: Fundamentals - Introduction ground school and hands-on flight instruction

• Piloting a Drone: Advanced Concepts - Deep dive into aircraft components and mechanics along with advanced ground school and advanced aerial maneuvers

"Vortex UAS continues to prove itself as the Gold Standard in Professional UAS Training and is happy to announce a partnership with Harper College Continuing Education in implementing a Drone Pilot Training Curriculum," said Vince Donohue, president of Vortex UAS LLC.

"Vortex instructors have decades of experience in manned aviation, unmanned aviation and professional corporate training. Harper College will host Vortex courses, including a three level Professional Drone Pilot Training Course, as well as an intensive 20-hour Part 107 Test Prep course, which prepares students to take the Remote Pilot Certificate test.
