Maine South takes regional
In the final girls gymnastics regional meet feeding into next week's Fremd sectional, host Maine South rose to the team championship with a score of 145.475.
Rolling Meadows placed second at 136.025, meaning both Hersey and Palatine, who had higher scores earlier in the week, will grab at-large team berths to the sectional.
Senior Victoria Zervos and freshman Nicole Kane both earned automatic individual advancement to the sectional in multiple events.
Zervos finished second floor exercise (9.375), third on the uneven bars (9.15) and third in the all-around (35.650).
Kane won uneven bars with a 9.4, had the fourth-best all-around score (34.975) and tied for fifth on beam (8.425).
Maine South sophomore Caleigh Pistorius won vault (9.2), floor exercise (9.425) and the all-around (36.6). The Hawks also had a champion on beam, where Alysa Chiovatero won with 9.9.325.
Prospect, which placed third with a score of 130.15, has one automatic sectional qualifier in junior Rosie Barros. She placed fifth in the all-around with a score of 33.6.
The Fremd sectional will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
