Airport in Freeport to resurface runway with $1.7M grant

FREEPORT, Ill. (AP) - A small airport in northern Illinois is getting a $1.7 million grant to resurface its one hard-surface runway.
The work at Albertus Airport in Freeport begins this spring, funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Airport manager Darrell Janssen tells the (Freeport) Journal Standard (http://bit.ly/2jPggF4 ) the work will be done by a local firm, which benefits the community.
The airport opened in 1945. It is used by businesses such as Newell, Honeywell and Titan Tire. Agricultural aircraft use the airport and there are 63 aircraft based there.
