Week 8: Hinsdale Central's Hoiberg nets MVP acclaim

Senior guard Jack Hoiberg of Hinsdale Central has earned Daily Herald MVP recognition for his recent high school boys basketball performances.

Jack Hoiberg, Hinsdale Central: The Red Devils wrapped a 6-0 run through the first half of the West Suburban Silver slate with a 68-51 win over Downers Grove North and a 67-61 decision over Oak Park. Hoiberg tallied 17 points against Downers North and 20 points versus Oak Park, hitting a combined 17 of 20 free throws.

Kashimir Ivy, Larkin: This senior super-sub came made impacts in 3 games. The 5-foot-9 guard scored 25 points last Monday as Larkin split 2 games at the Rockford Jefferson MLK Showcase. Four days later he helped the Royals make history with a 79-56 victory at rival Elgin. Ivy came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points as Larkin beat Elgin for a record 12th straight time.

Ben Kusiak, Grant: Ranked 10th academically in his class, the 6-foot-2 senior guard brought his "A" game against Wauconda, scoring a career-high 28 points in a 76-56 victory. He also had 15 points against Hoffman Estates, as the Bulldogs capped their week by winning their third game in a row.

Matt Szuba, Prospect: The senior forward is making his Knights awfully tough to defend against. In Prospect's 74-68 win at Buffalo Grove, which helped the Knights keep their share of the Mid-Suburban East lead, Szuba had 23 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.
