Sonography programs seek volunteers for free ultrasounds

Harper College's Diagnostic Medical and Cardiac Sonography programs are seeking volunteers interested in receiving free ultrasounds.

Exams will include echocardiograms of the heart (participants must be at least 18 years old) and obstetrical ultrasounds (participants must be at least 18 weeks pregnant).

Appointments will be available on select days between Jan. 25 and late April.

The free exams, which each last about an hour, are performed by students under the supervision of a registered diagnostic medical and cardiac sonographer. Harper's program conforms to all patient safety regulations.

The tests are non-diagnostic. Volunteers will not receive a medical report, but may be instructed to follow up with a physician. Obstetrical ultrasound volunteers can receive a copy of 2D/3-D images. Appointments are required and fill up quickly.
