Stevenson High student charged after bus attack

A female Stevenson High School student was arrested after attacking another girl on a school bus while a third teen recorded the violence, authorities said.

The attack occurred about 4:30 p.m. Monday on a bus that was parked on the Lincolnshire campus.

The 15-year-old victim was attacked as she boarded the bus by a 16-year-old student, police said.

The older girl threw a water bottle at the victim and then repeatedly punched her, Stevenson High spokesman Jim Conrey said. A third girl who Conrey called an "accomplice" recorded the attack on her cellphone.

A male student intervened and pulled the assailant off the victim, Conrey said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with minor injuries.

The 16-year-old was arrested Tuesday after a police investigation. She will be charged with aggravated battery in juvenile court, police said.

Both that girl and the girl who recorded the attack will face "significant" disciplinary action at school, Conrey said.

The girl who recorded the fight has not been charged, police said, but the case remains under investigation.

The attack was not related to a Nov. 1 fight at Stevenson High that involved two female students and a male student, Conrey said.
