Services set for suburban Chicago officer killed in crash

BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. (AP) - Funeral services are being held for a suburban Chicago police officer who died after crashing an SUV while responding to a call.

WLS-TV reports (http://abc7.ws/2jpZZ79 ) a wake for Bloomingdale Police Officer Raymond Murrell is scheduled for Tuesday in West Chicago.

A police escort will take the 27-year-old's body from the funeral home in Roselle to Wheaton Bible Church in West Chicago, where the wake will start with a walk-through for law enforcement officers.

Murrell's funeral will be held at the church on Wednesday.

Murrell was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Thursday. Bloomingdale police Chief Frank Giammarese says Murrell was on the force less than a year.

He described Murrell as a "shining star" and says he and other officer were recently recognized for saving a heart-attack victim.
