Boeing grant expands Kimball Hill's Blessings in a Backpack program

Kimball Hill School, Rolling Meadows, was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Boeing Company Employees Community Fund of Chicago. This grant will fund the expansion of Kimball Hill's Blessings in a Backpack program, doubling the number of students it will serve.

Across District 15, the Blessings in a Backpack program provides nearly 300 students in need at three different schools with enough groceries to feed themselves each weekend.

A group of volunteers stepped up to start the Blessings in a Backpack program at Kimball Hill School last winter. Supported by the school's Kids Hope mentors and a number of volunteers from Community Church of Rolling Meadows, the Kimball Hill effort kicked off by sending these groceries home with about 50 students each Friday afternoon.

Now, thanks to this Boeing grant, the school will increase the number of students who benefit from this program to 100.

"And we could go even higher because the need is there," said Tracey Wrobel, Kimball Hill School principal. "Thank you, Boeing Company Employees Community Fund of Chicago. This grant will help us sustain our program to meet the needs of many of our students."
