Glenbard East officials: No student walkout
Glenbard East High School officials said Friday was an "instruction-as-usual school day" in Lombard and rumors of a planned walkout by some students to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump never materialized.
"Today is a momentous and historic day as presidential inaugurations always are," Principal Shahe Bagdasarian said in a written statement. "Our staff has taken the opportunity to remind students that public schools must be nonpolitical, and by their very nature, safe havens for varying viewpoints. Our teachers continue to reinforce to our students that we can have differing opinions but still be respectful of each other."
Glenbard District 87 spokeswoman Peg Mannion said "students are in class, working on engaging lessons and deep learning tasks."
