Darien man dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound

A 51-year-old Darien man is dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound after barricading himself in a home on the 1600 block of Darien Club Drive Thursday morning, police said.

Officers were called just before 6:30 a.m. to a report of a domestic situation in the home, where a man had shown a firearm, police said.

While en route, officers were advised the man had fired the weapon.

The man's wife and two children were able to flee the house when officers arrived, police said.

The area was shut down and a SWAT team responded. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact the man, a robot was sent into the house, where the man was found dead.
