Meet renowned landscape artist Harold Gregor at Oakton

Oakton Community College's Koehnline Museum of Art, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, will host a gallery talk with the "Dean of the Midwest Landscape" Harold Gregor at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24. This event is free.

Gregor will discuss his exhibition, "Changing Perspectives: The Landscapes of Harold Gregor," currently on display at the college's art museum until Friday, Feb. 17.

The traveling exhibition is a retrospective of art by the former University of Illinois professor. Works span more than 50 years and include oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors and prints depicting Gregor's early abstract work through his interpretations of the Illinois farmlands surrounding Urbana-Champaign, where he lives and works.

"Harold is one of the most prominent landscape artists in the Midwest," said Nathan Harpaz, museum manager and curator. "He challenges the flat and monotonous look of the prairie by creating dynamic images with startling perspectives and colors.

"In his talk, Harold will discuss his artistic development from abstract expressionism at the beginning of his career, through the original interpretation of the Illinois landscape and up to his current vibrant compositions."
