Chicago police officer charged with felony sexual assault

CHICAGO (AP) - Bond is $75,000 for a Chicago police officer charged with felony criminal sexual assault for allegedly having sexual contact with an underage girl.

Chicago police say 51-year-old officer Eugene Ciardullo was arrested and charged Saturday. A judge set bond Sunday and he's expected back in court on Tuesday. Prosecutors say Ciardullo started communicating with the girl via social media when she was 16 and started a sexual relationship with her when she was 17.

Prosecutors say Ciardullo admitted to the allegations and knowing the girl's age. Ciardullo remained silent in court Sunday. His attorney George Grzeca said the officer's career achievements include four commendations and 100 honorable mentions. Grzeca declined to comment further. Ciardullo's also declined to comment after court proceedings.

Chicago police internal affairs also are investigating the case.
