Indiana courthouse's murals, stained glass set for repairs

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A northeastern Indiana county's courthouse will soon be filled with scaffolding as workers repair water-damaged murals and its rotunda's stained glass dome.

The nearly $350,000 in restoration work inside the Allen County Courthouse is expected to take a few months.

The News-Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2jsluHg ) contractors have fixed leaks in the courthouse's attic that caused the water damage. Those repairs have set the stage for restoration of the building's 116-year-old murals that depict how government affects residents' daily lives.

Those murals created by Chicago School artist Charles Holloway won a gold medal in 1893's Chicago World's Columbian Exposition.

Crews will also replace or repair missing or broken glass in the rotunda's stained glass dome that was discovered during the water damage survey. They'll also install curved support bars to the dome's exterior.
