Fremd reaches semifinals at DeKalb
Fremd's trip to DeKalb on Saturday resulted in two more wins.
Now the Vikings girls basketball team will try to stop a team that has only wins on its schedule so far this year.
Undefeated Rockford Boylan (17-0 and ranked sixth in Class 4A) and Fremd (17-4) will meet in the 4:30 p.m. semifinal when the DeKalb tourney resumes on Monday.
The other semi brings together Rock Island against Rockford Lutheran.
The championship is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Fremd defeated Hinsdale Central 54-33 in its first game on Saturday as senior Grace Tworek led the charge with a game-high 21 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks followed by Midori Williams (11 points, three 3-pointers) and Emily Klaczek (9 points, 3 assists).
Missy Adrian chipped in 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.
Fremd came back with a 49-33 win over Batavia as senior Missy Adrian led the way with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. She was followed by Midori Williams (9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steal), Hayley Williams (8 points), Tworek (7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Klaczek (6 points).
Rolling Meadows 84, Niles West 59: Rolling Meadows (14-6) was led by Kyra Spiwak (19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists) and Morgan Campagna (17 points, 20 rebounds and 3 assists).
Melissa Spiwak and Alexa Davis each contributed 11 points while Lily Greifenstein added 10 for the Mustangs, who face Maine West (17-2) at 3 p.m. on Monday in the Subway Classic at Willowbrook High School.
Loyola-bound Katherine Nolan was injured in Friday's win over Buffalo Grove and did not play Saturday.
"We shared the ball really well today," said Mustangs coach Ryan Kirkorsky who is hoping Nolan will be ready on Monday. "And we received contributions from everyone on our roster. It was a great team win."
St. Charles East 53, Barrington 49: Sophomore Tori Meyer scored a team-high 18 points for host Barrington (3-15), followed by senior Cecilia Stack (14 points, 9 rebounds) and senior Maggie O'Donnell (career-high 11 points, 6 assists).
O'Donnell and Meyer each had two 3-pointers while Claire Collier had one.
"I was really proud of our kids," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "I felt they left it all out there worked so hard tonight. They just fell a little short to a very talented and seasoned St. Charles team."
O'Donnell and Stack recorded career-high scoring games.
"Maggie and Stack did a great job putting points on the board down the stretch," Barreiro said. "And Tori (Meyer) again had another great night offensively."
Junior forward Tess Conforti pulled down 16 rebounds with 3 steals and 2 assists.
"I also loved the grit and guts of Tess Conforti, who was so gutsy tonight," Barreiro said. "She pulled down 16 rebounds while nursing a badly bruised sternum. She really gave us a great effort."
Palatine 42, Hampshire 40: Palatine (10-9) earned its second win as many day as Sydney Rzepka (10 points), Tatiana Henderson (10 points) and Kacie Filian (7 points) led the way in the nonconference game.
Reggie Much and Sarah Jasonowicz each had 3-pointers for Palatine, which overcame a 6-for-16 effort at the foul line.
Antioch 46, Buffalo Grove 22: Antioch jumped ahead 17-6 after one quarter in the first-round game of the Martin Luther King Tournament at Lake Forest High School.
Macy Floro led the Bison with 7 points, including a 3-pointer.
The Sequoits defense limited Buffalo Grove to 7 points in the second half and forcing 19 turnovers in the game.
Ashley Reiser scored a game-high 15 points and dished out 5 assists for Antioch (15-3).
BG (8-12) also dropped 54-32 decision to Lake Forest.
