Libertyville bounces Lake Zurich

Caroline Frea scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Libertyville's girls basketball team rallied to beat host Lake Zurich 50-38 in North Suburban Conference action Wednesday night.

Riley Weis and Lydia Crow added 12 and 8 points, respectively, for Libertyville, which improved to 10-8 and 4-4 in the NSC.

"We lost a double-digit lead - a great run by LZ - and we regrouped and made some key plays in the last two minutes of the game," Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said. "We are happy to see our confidence and maturity grow."

Sophomore forward Maddie Piggott had 12 points for Lake Zurich (8-11, 4-3).

Antioch 67, Grayslake North 47: The visiting Sequoits limited the Knights to 5 points in the second quarter in grabbing the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Antioch (14-3, 6-1) remains a game back of Grayslake Central in the NLCC.

Amy Reiser had a team-best 17 points for the Sequoits, while Erika Gallimore (16 points) and Ashley Reiser (11) both made a pair of 3s.

Amy Reiser also contributed 8 rebounds and had 5 steals. Gallimore had 4 steals and blocked 2 shots, and Ashley Reiser produced 14 assists and had 8 steals.

The Sequoits also had big efforts from Taylor Feltner (6 points, 5 assists, 5 steals) and Megan Kelly (7 points, steals).

Sidney Lovitsch led all scorers with 21 points, including four 3s, for Grayslake North (10-5, 5-2).

Marist 69, Carmel 42: Katie Lach scored 20 points, including five 3-pointers, but the visiting Corsairs lost the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

Mary Kate Mooney chipped in 7 points for Carmel (11-8, 1-2).

Marist improved to 18-3 and 2-0.

Stevenson 73, Waukegan 29: Ashley Richardson and Klaire Steffens led a balance attack with 16 and 15 points, respectively, as the visiting Patriots cruised in North Suburban Conference play.

Stevenson (15-3, 8-0) also received 10 points from Madison Wicklund, 9 from Gina Shanley and 8 apiece from Kiana Cencula and freshman Avery King.

Maine South 42, Vernon Hills 33: Kayla Caudle's 13 points and 8 rebounds weren't enough for the host Cougars, who dropped the Central Suburban crossover.

Becky Bahlmann had 12 points for Vernon Hills (9-9).

"Overall we played well, but we hit a scoring drought," Cougars coach Paul Brettner said. "Maine South killed us on the boards, and we gave them too many additional possessions."
