Gibis' baseball passion to be recognized by Chicago Scouts Assocation

The Chicago Scouts Association will present Wauconda senior Pierson Gibis with the Charlie Donovan Memorial "Passion for the Game" Award, which is given to an individual who has exhibited passion for their craft within the game or business of baseball.

The award will be presented Saturday at Sam & Harry's in Schaumburg.

Gibis is a member of the Pro-Player Hurricanes.

"Pierson is the kind of kid you want your son and/or young players to look up to and model themselves after," Hurricanes director of high school teams Mick Matsie said. "His work ethic, positive attitude, compassion, will and smile are what make him successful on the field, in the classroom and, more importantly, in life."

Last August, Gibis was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a cancer that develops from connective tissues in the body, such as muscles, fat, bones, the linings of joints or blood vessels.

The award is a custom design and the creation of Andrew Watson Design, who specializes in unique handcrafted awards. The mission of the Chicago Scouts Association is to perpetuate the sport of baseball within the Chicago land area, to enhance the community spirit and to provide for the well-being of youth through positive and supportive endeavors.
