Gilberts trustee tossed off ballot

Gilberts Trustee David LeClercq Sr. was tossed off the ballot in a 2-1 vote by an electoral board.

Resident Gonzalo Tinajero Ruiz filed an objection stating LeClercq failed to file a receipt showing he filed his economic interest statement with Kane County as part of his nominating papers for the April election, documents show.

The electoral board, which met Friday, was composed of Village President Rick Zirk, Village Clerk Debra Meadows and Trustee Louis Hacker, who is one of two senior trustees not running in April and was chosen by lot, Village Administrator George Sakas said.

LeClercq, completing his first term on the board, filed the online statement with the county but did not include that receipt when he filed with the village, Sakas said.

LeClercq couldn't attend the meeting due to a medical appointment, Sakas said. "Trustee Hacker voted no on the basic principle that (LeClercq) should be there to respond," Sakas said, adding that no one appeared on LeClercq's behalf.

LeClercq didn't immediately return a request for comment Tuesday. Incumbents Nancy Farrell and Guy Zambetti, along with residents Jeanne Allen and Dan Pace, also are running for three open trustee seats.

The board discussed rescheduling the hearing but the objector and one of the board members were due to leave town, Sakas added.

The matter was clear cut, Zirk said. "You can have all the testimony you want to show up, but the form still won't be there."
