Shoveling program to help elderly, disabled

The city of Highland Park is coordinating a volunteer snow shoveling program to serve low-income elderly and disabled residents of Highland Park and Highwood. After snow accumulations of at least 2 inches, residents who are registered in the program can ask for assistance shoveling their driveway and walkway. A volunteer team will be contacted and should be able to assist within 48 hours. The registered homeowner or renter will be responsible for providing snow shovels along with ice-melting materials. Snowblowers are not allowed due to safety issues. For information about program qualifications, to register for shoveling assistance, or to volunteer to shovel snow for those in need, contact Jennifer Aiello, city of Highland Park social services coordinator at (847) 926-1868 or jaiello@cityhpil.com.
